We constantly follow social media platforms for suspicious posts, misinformation or fake claims. Our selection process is based on a variety of factors, including the quantity or degree of claimed evidence within the reporting, the potential relevance of the article in shaping the public discussion, and the size of the source’s existing reach.
Our sources for topics include claims made by and about politicians, celebrities, famous personalities, and influencers; propaganda, provocative messages and/or hashtags.
We review articles and claims in a variety of media, without a perspective. Where possible, we attempt to contact the person/organization who made the claim, to verify the accuracy of the original statement. We investigate any sources that the claimant provides. We use internet tools like Google Reverse Image Search, Reveye, Tineye, Bing, Exif, etc. to determine the origin of the viral video or image.
The fact check is not just limited to the claim made but also looks at historical data to look at the trend over time, etc.
Our quality reviewer then reviews the story under investigation, he/she ensures that all the steps have been followed by the fact checker. Once the quality check is done, the story goes for publishing on our website.
The verified story is then published on our website describing the proceedings and findings during the fact check process.
