Punjab Floods: Viral Picture Of Man Salvaging Grains On Banana Raft Is From Bihar

As severe flooding devastates northern India, a photo has gone viral claiming to show a man wading through flood waters while pushing a banana raft loaded with grains, claiming to be from Punjab.

A reverse image search of the viral photo led to multiple 2017 reports about Bihar floods:

• Financial Times (August 17, 2017) published the same photo credited to PTI, with the caption: “A villager is seen carrying grains on a banana raft as he shifts from a flooded village in Araria district of Bihar.”
  
• A PTI report (August 19, 2017) also carried the photo, corroborating that it is from Bihar. 

• A similar image is available on stock photo site Alamy, listed under Bihar’s 2017 floods in Purnea division, which includes Araria district.

The viral photo is not from Punjab floods. It is a 2017 image from Bihar’s Araria district.
