Fact Check
Bondi Beach Attack: Did NSW Premier Chris Minns Say S Jaishankar Assured Help In Probe Into ‘Indian-Origin Shooters’?
Claim
NSW Premier Chris Minns says India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar contacted his Australian counterpart, Penny Wong, after it was established that the Bondi Beach attackers were of Indian origin.
Fact
The viral video is AI-manipulated, and Chris Minns made no such statement about the attackers.
At least 15 people were killed after a father-son duo, identified as Sajid Akram and Naveed Akram, opened fire at the Jewish people attending a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia on Sunday (December 14, 2025). Since the news of the tragic attack broke, social media platforms are rife with speculation about the nationality of the gunmen.
In this backdrop, a video allegedly showing NSW Premier Chris Minns stating that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had reached out to Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and extended India’s support in investigation after it was purportedly established that the shooters were of Indian origin, has gone viral online.

Evidence
No Credible Reports
A search using keywords such as “Chris Minns, S Jaishankar, and Bondi Beach attack” on Google did not yield any credible reports or official release/public statements by the Australian authorities carrying the alleged remark by the NSW Primer. The social media handles of Minns, Jaishankar and Wong also did not carry any post supporting the viral claim.
Original Footage Traced
A reverse image search of the keyframes led to a video report published by ABC News, whose logo is seen in the viral clip- on December 14, 2025, stating “NSW Premier Chris Minns says the Bondi Beach attack was designed to target Sydney’s Jewish community on the first day of Hanukkah.”
The footage showed Minns wearing the same attire and standing in the same setting as in the viral clip. We reviewed the video and found that Minns only detailed the Bondi Beach attack, without mentioning anything about India or S Jaishankar.

The video was also shared on the official Instagram account of Minns with the caption, “This cowardly act of terrifying violence is shocking and painful to see, and represents some of our worst fears of terrorism in Sydney…It is the responsibility of all Australians to wrap our arms around Australia’s Jewish community and help them through this incredibly difficult period. This is a massive, complex investigation that has only just begun.”
Signs of AI-Manipulation
Further analysis revealed multiple indicators of deepfake manipulation:
- The lip and jaw area in the viral clip appears blurred and smudged
- Speech lacked natural pauses and breathing patterns
- Audio tone differed significantly from Minns’ verified recordings
