Aleema Khanum, sister of jailed former Pakistani PM Imran Khan, calls Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir a “radicalised Islamist” who yearns for a war with India during an interview on Sky News.
The video is not real. Aleema Khanum made no such remarks in the original Sky News interview. Multiple analyses confirm the viral clip is a deepfake.
Several social media users and several media outlets are sharing a video claiming that Aleema Khanum, the sister of jailed former Pakistan PM Imran Khan, strongly criticised Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir in an purported interview with Sky News, calling him a “radicalised Islamist” who wants war with India.
The viral video is 1 minute 13 seconds long, in which interviewer and journalist Yalda Hakim asks Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khanum, “Why do you think Pakistan went to war in May? I was personally witnessing some of the events that took place during the war. I also had the opportunity to interview the Defense Minister, but I want to understand why you think the war between Pakistan and India happened. As I’ve heard, your statements caused some uproar.”
In response, Aleema Khanum is heard saying in the viral video, “Yalda, this Asim Munir is a very “radicalised Islamist” … and a religiously conservative person. This is why he wants war with India, because his religious fanaticism and conservatism motivate him to fight those who do not believe in Islam. This is what distinguishes him from Imran Khan, who is a completely liberal. Therefore, whenever Imran Khan comes to power, you will see that he always tries to befriend India and even the BJP. But when this radical Islamist Asim Munir, is there, then you will see that there will be a war with India, and not only India but also India’s allies will be affected. I have been saying repeatedly that Imran Khan is an asset, and the West should make efforts to get Imran Khan released.”
The video has been shared on Facebook with the caption, “#BREAKING: In a Sky News interview, Aleema Khanum, the sister of ex-PM Imran Khan, alleged that Army chief Asim Munir engineered the May conflict with India to bolster his Islamic identity, and claimed the selective targeting of Hindus in Pahalgam was part of his plan”. Apart from this, the Telegraph, NDTV, India Today, Hindustan Times, and Wion News also published reports on this claim

Imran Khan, has been imprisoned in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail for more than two years after a court sentenced him in a corruption case. Recently, Khan’s family alleged that they were not allowed to meet him in jail. Following this, when his three sisters, Aleema Khanum, Naureen Niazi, and Uzma Khan, reached Adiala Jail to meet him, police officers stationed there stopped them on the way. However, after some time, jail officials allowed one of Imran Khan’s sisters, Uzma Khan, to meet him.
1. Original Sky News Interview Shows No Such Statement
To investigate the viral statement made by Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, we performed a keyword search and found a video uploaded on Sky News’ YouTube account on December 3.

2. Full Episode Review Confirms Misrepresentation
In this approximately 3-minute video, Aleema Khanum discussed the health of Imran Khan, and she attacked Asim Munir. However, in this video, Sky News anchor Yalda Hakim neither asked a question about India and Pakistan nor did she provide a response similar to the one in the viral video. We then watched a video of the entire event, uploaded to Sky News’ YouTube account on December 3, 2025. Between the 13-minute mark and the 18-minute mark of “The World with Yalda Hakim,” we found the interview with Aleema Khanum.

After listening to the entire episode, we found that Aleema first provided information about Imran Khan’s health and then shared Imran Khan’s thoughts about Asim Munir, which he shared with his sister Uzma Khan. She then attacked Asim Munir, calling him a dictator. She also stated that the people of Pakistan are angry with him. She then provided information about the ongoing cases against Imran Khan and stated that Imran Khan represents 90 percent of the people of Pakistan, so they want to isolate him.
3. Yalda Hakim Issues Public Rebuttal
During our investigation, we also found that Yalda Hakim also posted a rebuttal to the claim from her X account, writing, “This is extremely scary. A deepfake video of my interview with Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, is going viral. It falsely claims that we discussed this year’s Pakistan-India war. We did not do that at all. This clip is completely fake.”

Not only this, on December 4, 2025, Yalda Hakim also discussed this video in her show and told how her interview was edited and presented, whereas nothing like this was there in the actual interview and many media outlets also published this fake interview, considering it to be real.

4. AI Detection Tools Confirm Deepfake Audio
In our investigation, we also tried to determine whether the viral video was edited with the help of AI. To do this, we tested the video using the Resemble AI detection tool. This tool indicated that the audio in the video was AI-generated.

Apart from this, another AI video detector tool also suggested that the clip was AI-generated.

We also contacted the Deepfake Analysis Unit (DAU). They analysed the audio in the clip using the Hiya and Aurigin AI detection tools, which both found it to be highly likely AI-generated.

The viral video showing Imran Khan’s sister calling Asim Munir a “radical Islamist” is doctored. She never made such a statement in her Sky News interview, and multiple analyses confirm the clip is a deepfake.
