Fake Screenshot Falsely Claims Gautam Gambhir Announced Resignation As Team India Head Coach
Claim
A viral screenshot claims Gautam Gambhir has resigned as India’s head coach after recent Test losses, issuing a long “farewell note” on X.
Fact
The screenshot is fake. Gambhir has not posted any resignation announcement, and no credible news outlet or the BCCI has confirmed his exit.
A screenshot of an announcement is going viral with the claim that Gautam Gambhir has stepped down as Team India’s men’s cricket team head coach following five consecutive home Test losses under his tenure, including a recent 2-0 series defeat to South Africa.

“Today, I am officially stepping away from the cricket world both as a coach and any future involvement. Honestly, the constant stream of criticism and trolling has simply become exhausting. I gave everything I had to this game, but the atmosphere around it, particularly online, makes it clear that my time is up. I leave with my records intact and my head high. Wishing Indian Cricket all the very best for its future endeavours. May you find continued success. Thank you for the memories, Gautam Gambhir,” reads the purported announcement.
Evidence
Newschecker first looked up Gautam Gambhir’s X account, where we did not find any such post announcing his resignation. Moreover, we did not find any credible news reports stating that Gambhir has stepped down, while multiple reports on his post-match press conference, seen here and here, quoted Gambhir as saying that it up to the BCCI to decide his future.
A further search led us to an uncropped version of the viral screenshot of the purported X post, seen here and here, where you can see Gambhir’s name being misspelled and that it is not from his official X handle.

We then looked up the handle, @imRavY_, where the viral screenshot, dated November 24, 2025 has clocked over 2.9 million views and that the username has been changed. “Memes are temporarily…,” reads the bio of the account, which has reportedly changed its username 21 times. This confirms the screenshot is not an official resignation statement.
