A campaign poster purportedly showing a burqa-clad UDF candidate contesting the upcoming gram panchayat elections in Kerala.
The poster circulating online is fake. The woman shown is not the official UDF candidate for Vengara ward 12 in Malappuram.
Ahead of the elections to the local bodies (panchayats, municipalities and corporations) in Kerala on December 9 and December 11, a photo of a woman in a burqa is circulating on social media, claiming to be a campaign poster for SP Fathima Nazeer, allegedly the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate for ward 12 of Vengara gram panchayat in Malappuram district.
The poster carries the Malayalam caption:
“The golden feather of youth — Vote for UDF candidate S.P. Fathima Nazeer,Ward 12, Vengara.”
It also displays the ladder symbol, which is the official emblem of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

According to the State Election Commission’s official website, the UDF candidate for Ward 12 (Saudi Nagar) in Vengara panchayat is NT Mymoona of the Indian Union Muslim League. Her election symbol is the IUML’s official emblem, the ladder.

The Local Self Government Department (LSGD) website shows that NT Mymoona is the sitting member of the Pangattukundu ward in Vengara panchayat.

A Matrubhumi newspaper report dated November 25, 2025, officially lists NT Mymoona as the UDF candidate for Ward 12.

A UDF worker from Vengara, Imthiyas Haidar, shared a graphic on December 2, 2025, listing candidates from all 24 wards. No candidate named “Fathima Nazeer” appears in this list.

Candidate NT Mymoona told Newschecker over phone, “The circulating poster is fake. It has no connection with the Muslim League. I am a sitting member of Anchattukundu ward in Vengara panchayat. I am currently contesting from ward 12 (Saudi Nagar).”
Local resident Haseeb Vengara said, “The photo being circulated claims the woman is contesting from Ward 12. But the real candidate is NT Mymoona. There is no such burqa-clad female candidate poster anywhere in this panchayat.”
