Video Claiming To Show Monkey Saving Dog From Crocodile Is AI-Generated

Claim

A 10-second video showing a monkey rescuing a dog from the jaws of a crocodile.

The archived version of the post can be seen here, which has clocked 16.5 million views so far.

Fact

Newschecker noticed the watermark of Sora, the AI video-generating model by OpenAI, which suggests that it is AI-generated.

We also noticed the overly smooth texture of the water body in the video, along with the lack of detail and the distorted hands of the monkey in several frames, all signs pointing towards AI-generated media.

We then ran screengrabs of the video past AI-content detection tools such as WasitAI, SightEngine and Decopy AI, which found high probability of the video being AI-generated.

Similarly, the Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU) of the Misinformation Combat Alliance (MCA), which includes Newschecker, also analysed the clip. The DAU ran the video past AIorNot and Image Whisperer, which also leaned towards the video being AI generated.
