Bihar Assembly Election 2025
Images prove that Kanhaiya Kumar voted in Delhi during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and again in Begusarai, Bihar, during the 2025 Assembly polls.
Evidence shows that the image was taken when he was visiting polling booths in Delhi, not voting.
Amid the Opposition’s ongoing campaign against alleged vote theft, a set of photos of Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar have gone viral, with users claiming that he voted in Delhi during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and also cast his vote during the ongoing 2025 Assembly polls in Bihar, implying electoral malpractice.

Kumar voted in the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections on November 6 in Begusarai, and shared a photo of the same on social media. Soon after, users began circulating an alleged old photo of him purportedly showing him casting a vote at a polling booth in Delhi.

No credible reports were found to support the claim that Kanhaiya Kumar voted in Delhi during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
A reverse image search of the viral photo led to an X post by Kumar dated May 25, 2024. The post, featuring the same image, read:
“Visited the booths of Timarpur with the honorable MLA @dilipkpandey ji. Very positive signs are emerging. Despite the heat and long queues, there is tremendous enthusiasm among the public to cast their votes. Today, it is the public’s turn to speak their mind.”
The caption makes no mention of him casting his vote.

A similar photo was published by Amar Ujala on May 25, 2024, with the description:
“MLA Dilip Pandey and India Alliance candidate Kanhaiya Kumar took stock of the situation at various polling stations of Timarpur Assembly.”

A PTI video dated May 25, 2024, showed Kumar in the same attire as in the viral image, speaking to the media about “great enthusiasm” among voters in different constituencies.
Kumar contested on a Congress ticket from North East Delhi during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The affidavit he submitted at the time clearly stated:
“My name is enrolled in Electoral Roll of 143, Teghra Assembly Constituency (24–Begusarai Parliamentary Constituency) in the State of Bihar, at Serial No. 612 in Part No. 228.”

Newschecker learnt that under Section 33(5) of the Act, a person contesting an election can be enrolled as a voter somewhere in India, in any parliamentary or assembly constituency, but need not be a registered voter in the same constituency they are contesting from.
An X post by ANI dated May 13, 2024, showed Kumar casting his vote at a polling booth in Begusarai for the Lok Sabha elections.

An ETV Bharat report, also dated May 13, 2024, featured a photo of him in Begusarai to cast his vote during the fourth phase of polling.
Before joining the Congress in 2021, Kumar was with the CPI and had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Begusarai on the Left party’s ticket.
“As Begusarai finishes polls in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections, CPI candidate Kanhaiya Kumar casts his vote,” reported The New Indian Express on April 29, 2019. Kumar himself had shared photos of him standing in a polling line the same day.

Newschecker could not independently verify if Kumar is enrolled as a voter in any other constituency or not.
