A viral video shows Bangladeshi police handing over Dipu Chandra Das to a mob that later lynched him.
The video is old, unrelated, and does not show Dipu Chandra Das.
A Hindu factory worker, Dipu Chandra Das, was brutally lynched by a mob and his body was set of fire in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, over alleged blasphemy, renewing concerns about the safety of religious minorities in the country and sparking widespread outrage. According to latest reports, however, the Police and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have so far found no evidence supporting claims that Dipu insulted any religion. Mymensingh ASP (Administration) Abdullah Al Mamun also said that the allegations of blasphemy are currently based on word of mouth.
Amid this, a video showing a man crying as police appear to drag him has gone viral, with claims that the police handed Das over to the mob and that the clip shows his last moments.

A reverse image search led to a Facebook post by Bangladesh-based outlet Bhorer Kagoj, dated November 18, 2025, carrying the same video. The post caption asked: “What happened to this Dhaka College student?”
This establishes that the clip predates the killing of Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh, which is around 120km north of Dhaka.

A video shared by Dainik Sokal on November 18, 2025, showed police asking the man to board a rickshaw and leave. As per the post, the incident took place in Dhanmondi.
Barta Bazaar, in a post dated November 17, 2025, also identified the man as a Dhaka College student. Additionally, in footage published by NPB News, the man seen in the viral clip can be heard identifying himself as “Abdul Momin.”
Dipu Chandra Das was killed in Mymensingh, not Dhaka, further disproving the claim.

To verify the video, Newschecker reached out to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Shadat Hossain, who confirmed to us that the incident shown in the viral clip is from Dhanmondi-32, Dhaka, and is unrelated to the recent killing of Dipu Chandra Das.
