Bareilly Police thrashing detainees allegedly involved in violence during the ‘I Love Muhammad’ protests.
2022 video from UP’s Saharanpur shared with false context.
A video shared on X, which has clocked 522.7K views so far, claims to show Bareilly Police thrashing people detained for stone-pelting and violence during the recent ‘I Love Muhammad’ protests.

Newschecker found the claim to be false. The viral video actually dates back to June 2022, and shows an unrelated incident from UP’s Saharanpur. Newschecker had debunked the same video on September 2, 2024, when it went viral with the false claim that it showed Rajasthan Police thrashing those accused of throwing a cow tail outside a temple in Bhilwara.
