AI-Generated Photo Of Pakistani Women’s Cricket Team Captain Touching Smriti Mandhana’s Feet Shared As Real

Viral image claiming to show Pakistan women’s national cricket team captain Fatima Sana touching star Indian batter Smriti Mandhana’s feet after the former lost by 88 runs in the World Cup match in Colombo on October 5, 2025.

Fact

Newschecker first ran a keyword search for “Fatima Sana Smriti Mandhana”, which did not lead us to any credible reports among the extensive coverage on the match about such an incident.  Moreover, we noticed the overly smooth texture of the purported photo, which suggests that it is AI-generated imagery.

We ran the image past SightEngine, an AI-content detection too, which found it 99% likely AI-generated. Similarly, Hive Moderation found it 84.1% likely to contain AI-generated content, while WasitAI said it was quite confident that the image, or significant part of it, was created by AI. Decopy AI, too, found the image 100% likely to be AI-generated.
