AI/Deepfake
Video claiming to show PM Narendra Modi announcing three months of free mobile recharge to all Indian users.

The archived version of the post can be seen here.
Newschecker noticed that the audio, apart from sounding unnatural and monotonous, is not completely synchronised with the lip movements of PM Narendra Modi and the news anchor, raising our doubts on whether it was AI-manipulated.
We then ran the video and audio past these deepfake detection tools:
Hiya Deepfake Detector: Flagged the audio as “likely a deepfake.”
Resemble Deepfake Detector: Confirmed the audio as fake.
Hive Moderation: 99.4% likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content.

We then conducted a keyword search for “PM Narendra Modi free recharges”, which did not lead us to any credible media reports or official announcements supporting the viral video. We also looked up the Centre’s MyScheme portal and Press Information Bureau’s official website where we did not find any information on the purported scheme.
A further search led us to this X post by PIB Fact Check, dated September 28, 2025, clarifying that a WhatsApp forward claiming that PM Narendra Modi is offering 3 months of free mobile recharge to all Indian users is fake. “The Government of India is NOT running any such scheme…. Stay alert! NEVER click on suspicious links or share your personal details with unknown sources. Always verify such claims from official government channels before believing or forwarding them,” read the post.
Newshecker had already debunked a similar deepfake video, falsely claiming to show PM Narendra Modi announcing a special government scheme for Chhath Puja where citizens can get a Splendor motorcycle for free.
Interestingly, Newschecker found multiple “free recharge” reels, seen here, here and here, that include disclaimers claiming to educate viewers about scams. But despite the warnings, the clips mimic the same misleading format, likely to retain engagement and visibility, while advising users not to share sensitive information.
