Viral Video Claiming To Show Israeli Soldier Begging Iran For Mercy Is AI-Generated

Fact

Newschecker noticed the watermark reading “Veo” on the bottom-right corner of the clip, which is Google’s AI model that generates videos from text or image prompts.

We then ran the video past Hive Moderation, an AI-detection tool, which found it 88% likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content.

The Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU) of the Misinformation Combat Alliance (MCA), which includes Newschecker, also analysed the clip. The DAU used the Hiya Deepfake Voice Detector, which found the audio track to be generated or modified by AI, while the Deepfake-o-meter found that out of six audio classifiers, four concluded an extremely high probability of the audio being “AI-generated”.
